The specialty is defined in the “Program of the Specialty of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery” (approved by the Secretary of State for Universities and Research of the Ministry of Education and Sciences, by resolution 15-7-86, ratified and updated in 1996) as “A branch of surgery that deals with the surgical correction of any congenital, acquired, tumor or simply involutive process that requires repair or replacement of superficial and deep structures that affect body shape and function, being its techniques based on the tissue transplantation and mobilization ”.
